Woman from the Glaoua tribe in festive costume, Skin atlas
Circa 1940
This photograph taken by photographer Jacques Belin around 1940, presents a woman from the Glaoua tribe, in the High Atlas, dressed in her traditional festive costume. The portrait particularly highlights the characteristic elements of female adornment from this region., notably the front decorated with metal parts, jewelry, the chains and ornaments that accompany ceremonial attire. Through this image, the document testifies to the richness of the clothing traditions and material culture of the Amazigh populations of the High Atlas in the mid-20th century. Preserved in the archives of the Maison de la Photographie in Marrakech, this photograph constitutes a precious testimony to the traditions, know-how and regional identities of Morocco.
