Ottoman photographer of Syrian origin, he works with the French photographer Henri Bechard and receives a medal at one of the universal exhibitions in Paris. He then decides on a photographic studio in Constantinople towards 1860 then a branch in Cairo : Cairo attracted period photographers enormously with the increase in the number of tourists and many studios opened (the Zangaki brothers studio, FĂ©lix Bonfils' studio, Antonio Beato ...). It illustrates the text of Osman Hamdi Bey from these photographs the book : Popular Costumes of Turkey in 1873 : work published under the patronage of the Ottoman Imperial Commission for the Vienna World's Fair, in 1873. When he died, his studio is taken over by his brother, Cosmos. The studio is then joined by an associate, Pollicarpe Joallier then by Pascal Sebah's son, Jean-Pascal Sebah en 1888.
The studio continues its success and works in particular for Sultan AbdĂŒlhamid II.
