October 2012

The Maison de la Photographie strives to show original photographs, all taken in Morocco between 1870 and 1950. These are often very rare views, which require a real archeology of the gaze.
Beyond the picturesqueness of certain photographs, we have chosen images that open up on multiple aspects of Moroccan society and its rich complexity : portraits of Tangier - Jewish woman, portraits of slaves ... -, monuments glass plaques, photographs of Studio Souissi, photographs by Nicolas Muller. Documentaries. As usual, we will change several photographs during the course of the exhibition.
We chose the title : “Photographic treasures” while thinking about the “Regards sur le monde” exhibition, Paris, 2000, organized by Laurent Gervereau and Pierre Fournier.
