Wilson George Washington

George Washington Wilson. Women in haik, Tanger, circa 1880

1823-1893

Pioneer of photography in Scotland, in 1853, official court photographer, he opened an important workshop in Aberdeen (Part of the archives are at the University of Aberdeen). Just like Valentine, Mac Leod and Thomson, he photographed his country extensively, and became the official photographer of the royal family. He used the services of photographers throughout the British Empire and made his home a renowned business. He sent photographers all over North Africa. Photographs of Morocco were thus taken at his request towards 1880. We could not establish with certainty his arrival in Morocco, but he signed many views. The Maison de la Photographie has several albumen prints.
