Valentine James

Valentine, Tanger 1890

Scotland, 1815-1880.

Photographer and editor, he visited Paris in 1840 and learned there the daguerreotype technique. Daguerreotypes were often used for printing images, to then be destroyed. He may have gone to Morocco towards 1875, or commissioned photographers. The photographs are conventional, but there are also beautiful views of landscapes, like the coast where the Spartel lighthouse stands. Photographs of Tangier, Macleod, Brash and Co., Tanger.
