German zoologist. In 1906, he participates in a first expedition to Africa in Kenya. He organizes a second expedition to Congo which will be interrupted by the First World War. In 1925, he finally returns to Africa and notably travels through Angola. He settled in South Africa where he ended his life and left with the Transvaal Museum in Pretoria a collection of nearly 10000 clichés.
